Project: Samarra Al Askariyyain Holy Shrine

Client: The Reconstruction Committee of Al Askariyyain Holy Shrine

Location: Iraq, Samarra

Starting Date: 2008

Status: Completed

Description:

The Al Askariyyain Holy Shrine for Imams Al Hadi (as) and Al Hasan (as) was destroyed under Saddam’s regime. This project reconstructed the shrine to its original beauty, as well as further developing it to include intricate designs, such as a two-story portico.

Due to the delicacy of the historical religious relics, the removal of debris was conducted in a specialized manner to ensure as much preservation as possible. Through this project, the Al Askariyyain Shrine has been renovated and further developed, offering visitors a space for peace and remembrance of Imams Al Hadi (as) and Al Hasan (as).

The main dome required structural strengthening. The appropriate measures were taken, and the dome now stands with two shells. The development of the portico included roofing with an area of 3000m2 and 14 domes, optimising and improving the experience of those visiting.
