Client: Imam Hussain (as) Shrine Authority

Location: Karbala, Iraq

Starting Date: 2006

Status: Completed 2011

Description

The shrine development project followed the fall of Saddam’s regime. The project consisted of the expansion of the area surrounding Darih and the development of a second floor.

In the expansion of the surrounding area, the courtyard was layered with steel structure and concrete ceilings, reinforcing the structure. The ceilings consist of 14 adjustable domes designed using Islamic architectural patterns.

The addition of the second floor followed the first floor’s design, and it is purposed for administrative services. The stone flooring around the Darih was replaced using high-quality European stoning, and new pipes were installed through the floors.
