Expansion and Reconstruction of the Holy Shrine
Client: Kadhemia Shrine Authority
Location: Baghdad, Iraq
Starting Date: 2009
Status: Completed
The Darih project involves a replacement of the Darih for the Kadhemia shrine. It also included expansion for the area surrounding it.
The replacement was long overdue due to Saddam’s government disallowing the transfer of the new Darih. However, following the fall of Saddam’s regime, the new Darih was successfully transferred to Iraq with the following measures being taken:
- the holy Darih flooring was laid
- The haram flooring was replaced using the green onyx
- Surface water was collected
The new Darih was then put in.
Additionally, the following procedures were undergone to expand the Darih’s surrounding area:
- Redundant walls were removed
- Two domes were strengthened
